
We are delighted to continue the Design Justice and Ethics SIG Seminar Series with a talk from Dr. Petra Kuppers and Dr. Laura Murphy on their project “Planting Disabled Futures.” The talk will be on Wednesday, December 10th at 3:30pm EST/8:30pm GMT.
Bios:
Petra Kuppers is the Anita Gonzalez Collegiate Professor of Performance Studies and Disability Culture at the University of Michigan. She directs Planting Disabled Futures, a virtual reality/community performance project, as a Just Tech Fellow (2024-2026).
Laura Murphy is an expert on inclusive engineering design, supporting development of technology by centering disabled perspectives at every step in design processes.
Brief Abstract: We will share a demonstration and discussion of Planting Disabled Futures, a cross-disciplinary project led by Dr. Petra Kuppers. It is a multi-modal VR experience developed to share energy, liveliness, ongoingness, crip joy and experiences of pain. Engineers, designers, and practitioners can explore inclusive VR technology through this disability-centered project.
